A Brief History of RefToons

Every comic has an origin story. Let's journey back in time and discover the origin of RefToons.
But first, let me introduce myself.
My name is Paul Cox and for the last 14 years I have made my living through freelance illustration. Throughout the years I have created cartoon mascots for businesses, illustrated children's books, created graphics for websites, and illustrated explainer comics for large corporations.
I live in the great dairyland of Wisconsin with my wife Stephanie and our four kids. If you watch some of my Live videos on YouTube, you'll recognize my wife as the voice behind the camera 😄
Now, a brief history of RefToons.
Around 2010 there there were a few interesting circumstances with the church I was a part of that were the catalyst for a shift in my theological beliefs. I didn't know it at the time, but I was on a journey down the road of Reformed Theology.
Through various avenues I uncovered a treasure trove of wisdom from old dead guys like the Puritans and Reformers.
I was learning so much from these old dead guys and I couldn't just keep it all to myself. One day I thought, "How could I share with others what I had been learning. I'm not a pastor and I have no desire to be a pastor."
A thought struck me.
What if I created some comic strips using these old dead guys? That would put them out there in a fun and accessible way.
So I got to work and RefToons was born.
